Hi there and welcome to AllMastiffs.com
This is going to be quite a small site as all we’re talking about, watching videos about and listening to audios about is Mastiffs and seeing how there are only 35 breeds that are fully “mastiff” we should be done relatively quickly. Well, let’s hope not!
Here at AllMastiffs we’ve split our breeds into categories according to their primary uses. Obviously, those uses have changed over time and the dogs will appear in more than 1 category. Our categories are:
- “Companions“. These are breeds that have primarily bred to be family friendly and especially good with children but they will still have ‘guarding’ instincts.
- “Guardians“. Thse are breeds whose primary use was as personal and/or home protection and, as such, will be highly primed to ‘guard’ and can become very territorial
- “Herders“. Herders are, as you may think, breeds whose primary role was the protection of herds of farm animals.
- “Hunters“. Yes, that’s right. These dogs were bred to be hunters of big game such as boar and bear.
- “Workers“. This category we created to cover all those breeds that did not, primarily, fit precisely into 1 of the other 4 but, of course, now they fit into multiple categories.
The following list is one of all the specific breeds we’ll be supplying information on: (if the breed is in blue then that means we have built our fact sheet on that breed and it is ready to be read. The ones in black, we’ll be getting to as soon as we can):
